remote control an already started vlc( especially volume)

Postby Dmad_aen » 07 Jun 2005 14:36

hi, this is the situation:
theres a guy in the kitchen, around 5 metres from my room, playing stupid music with vlc on a linux machine, he is stupid too, but not too stupid, so when i just pkill vlc over and over again he will come running to me with a sad look on his face.
so i now just want to tune down the volume a bit, the vlc is already started, i have ssh connection to the machine in the kitchen and i might even be able to use telnet from my winxp machine if someone tells me what to do.
whatever solution you guys might give me, i would be pleased if it would not involve me getting up or something similar drastic.
thanks in advance :)

edit the ./vlc/vlcrc config file in the user dir and set extraintf to http.
You should now have a vlc webinterface on http://serverip:8080

Happy silence :D

thanks man!
this is extremely neat :)
right now he still has a little spirit left, meaning he just adjusts it back to higher volume, but i have alot of patience and in addtition to pkill, this WILL MAKE HIM SUCCUMB :-)
