The HTTP user and password will be encoded in base64. I noticed that the base64 encoding in VLC does not comply to RFC 1521. RFC 1521 says that any encoded string will be multiply of 4 characters. VLC maybe generates encoded string of 5 or 7 characters, which can not be decoded correctly by all servers.
