nforce2 driver issue? LOUD STATIC

Postby Haikusaur » 29 Apr 2005 17:12

I've loved VLC for a logn time now but it seems nVidia have broken your program for now ^^; I recently -- yesterday -- (foolishly) updated the drivers to my perfectly-working nforce2 motherboard, and no all my sound seems to work except in vlc. In vlc i get terrible, painful, potentially speaker-damaging noise, no matter which video i try to play, or whether I have the volume set to mute, even! It only quiets down when I turn down the volume in vlc. So sad ;_; I even tried updating vlc (tho i just copied and pasted the new package into the old dir, which has always worked for me before), but I still get the same exact results. What is most confusing, of course, is that all these videos still play fine in WMP. But, who wants to use WMP? ^^;

nVidia Audio Codec Interface v. 6.14.457.0
vlc .08.1

Got the same thing

Postby addi72 » 29 Apr 2005 17:28

I'm going through exactly the same thing. Automatic updates popped up with updated audio drivers for my chipset. But I thought the update hadn't gone through, because I get an error message saying the update isn't installed properly.

Has anyone got a workaround?

Fixed my problem

I wiped the dust off my mobo CD and installed the original nforce drivers. One restart, and VLC is rocking again.

hope this helps

I had been toying around with the idea of rolling back the drivers myself; was just hoping that maybe someone knew a quick workaround. But screw that, i think the VLC guys have more important things to worry about right now!

in other news... effin PROPS to M$ for doing something right -- driver rollback works yo, and wooo nelly it's nice. because i moved recently and don't have my mobo cd ^_~ and have crappy net access right now. nyway, thanks again everyone. VLC continues to set the standard, and is invariably my first recommendation ("but what about codecs!?" they say. "just copy that into a dir and poof -- codecs are built in." i say. "O_O" they say!) to anyone seeking a media player.

Also loud static

I do not use a NVidea card nor Windows XP: I use a cheap C-Media PCI soundcard and Windows 98SE. I experience the same sound problem: I only hear loud noise, playing VOB's, AVI's, whatever. All other software has no problems.... What now?

static

johnvanhulst,

done any updates recently? automatic or otherwise?

I noticed that when I had the static, going into "sound control" and muting "wave" did not mute the static. Do you see the same thing?

Try reinstalling soundcard drivers from CD if you can. That worked for me. (or does win98se have driver rollback?)
