Support for Ogg/VLC

Postby voder » 12 Apr 2005 15:27

ca va,

We are about to start with Vodes.net. We have ambitious, well (from a people's perspective) intended goals, but if the thing should ever go somewhere we need others on board who share our values and support the cause as well.

Whats the cause?

Relevant for this forum here: We are trying to specifically promote Open Standards and open source in music. In this respect, we are going to organize the first concert in Stockholm and for that purpose we wanna burn a promo CD. We dont want to use any proprietary format, but rather Ogg and VLC as media player. Of course, zillions are trying to do some marketing trick and become friends with OS. Take a look at the institutional aspects. The Community is owning the iNCC and neither the Steering Committee (management board) nor the Community Wisdom Council (supervisory board) has absolute powers. We are currently drafting a constitution for this thing here and welcome any thoughts as to how to improve the governance and allocate powers within the iNCC.

Back to the technical problem we have in relation to the promo CD: we need to make sure that the whole thing is easy to use. Question: What do we have to do achieve that the people who get the CD easily get the music to play without any Windows media player showing up? Is this possible? Can we export playlists which will be burned on the CDs?

Thus far we made a simple html file with pix of musicians. If we just embed media files M$ comes up (and of course no Ogg media) and we dont want that. So we would like to use VLC - but the average person wants to click once and the thing should work. If we wanna get their attention we have to make this possible to them. ..

P.S.: We are very busy now so please forgive us when you get your Support Pointssomewhat delayed. But right now there are only a few songs in the Community Property Pool anyways; and the People's IPO is still many Voders/years away....

best,

Core Team V.N.
