Movie from Harddisk

Hi,

I installed VLC MP on my Laptop and it works on my DVD drive.

I would like to get the DVD on my laptop, so I can watch my favorite
movies on the road without carrying the DVD around.

I copied the DVD on the hard disk, but I am not able to access the movie. (I tried the open file featuere with several of the files)

What do I need to do to succeed?

Launch VLC, then open a Windows explorer window, drag the VIDEO_TS folder on top of the running copy of VLC.

I would like to specify my problem.

a) by opening the folder, I can now access the movie. All segements are shown in the correct order.

b) the navigation feature to access chapters does not work at all.

c) the selection of subtitels or different languages does not display the name of the language but simply "spur" (track?)

I am also very interested in the answer to this question. I've been searching the archives, and will continue to do so, but I have not found any answer that says that it cannot be done. I have seen a few answers like the one here, but, as far as I can tell also, they simply create a playlist of all the VOBs and play them sequentially, without supplying a DVD menu.

One response (I don't remember where it was) was interesting in that it said to start opening a disc, but do something like click on the "Video-TS" box in that dialog and supply a path to the VIDEO_TS directory. I haven't been able to find such a setting.

After going through the archives, my next step will have to be going to the source to try to see if it's possible. I can't think of any reason why it should be difficult to implement: the functionality must already be there for DVDs; unless the menuing code is too heavily tied into the interface to the DVD drive.

make an image of the dvd using a burning program

load up the image as a virtual drive using daemon tools

use videolan to open the dvd as usual pointing to the virtual drive

i havent tried this myself but it should work
