remote TV

Postby jmv » 23 Oct 2004 14:33

I plan to install a point to point videolan streaming different TV channels in high DVD quality between a local PC (PIII - 450Mhz - win2000 - 256MB RAM - 33GB HDD) and a remote PC (To Be Defined) connected by ethernet. At the local PC : USB2 TV card (MPEG2 hardware encoder, TV tuner - for instance : Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2), and at the remote PC : selecting the channels, watching TV full screen DVD quality without the use of any other external devices (usb terminal...).

Could anyone tell me which software shall I put to local and remote PCs and which are the best harware configurations if the above one doesn't suit ?

Thanks a lot in advance

you can use VLC on both ends.

any hardware configuration will be ok for the server (since the card does the job). concerning the client, your local PC ought to be able to read the stream.

you can do a sort of channel selction by using the http or telnet interface. it's not embeded on the client side but it should be good enough for your needs.

VLC with wintv MPEG2 encoder video capture device

Postby jmv » 14 Feb 2005 19:45

Hello,
I've bought the MPEG2 encoder video capture device wintv pvr usb2 (with TV tuner). When I use VLC for recording TV on the hard disk of my computer (Win2000) it doesn't work (the pictures are very bad) whatever the outstream format (MPEGTS ou MPEG1...).
On the contrary VLC works perfectely for recording DVD from my PC DVD tape.
Could someone tell me if it is right and why ? What I have to do to make it work ?
Thanks very much in advance
JM
