Avi to Mpeg

I have an Avi file which I can see only with the VideoLan Player . Do I need a Pulg in or a codec which I can change the avi to a MPEG file???

A VLC package is self-contained, already has all of its own plugins/codecs/...

If you're using Windows, the wxwindows interface provides a couple of ways to do transcoding. You could create an MPEG2 .mpg file (mp2v video, mp2a audio, mpeg ps encapsulation), or .ASF, or .... (lots of choices)

VLC-Pakete enthalten immer ihre eigenen Codecs und Plugins und können keine externen/zusätzlichen Codecs verwenden.

Wenn du Windows benutzt, kannst du über das WxWindows-interface (die normale, Standardoberfläche für Windows) mehrere sogenannte Transcoding-Funktionen benutzen (Funktionen, die Video oder Audio von einem in einen anderen Codec übertragen). Du könntest damit eine MPEG2 .mpg Datei (mp2v video, mp2a audio, mpeg ps Verkapselung) und diverse andere Formate wie .ASF erzeugen. Öffne dazu den Dialog "Datei öffnen" (nicht "Datei schnell öffnen"!) und schaue dir die "Streamausgabe-Optionen" (o.ä.) an. Du musst den "Stream" dann als Datei speichern.

Schau in den neuen Streaming guide (derzeit nur in Englisch) auf der Dokumentationsseite für mehr Informationen.

You could also try (in Windows):
1) Open a Command Prompt, in the directory with vlc.exe
2) In the Command Prompt, enter:
vlc input_file.avi :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=2048,scale=1,acodec=mp2a,ab=96,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url="outfile.mpg"}}

This will take "input_file.avi", and make a copy called "outfile.mpg". outfile.mpg will be a "normal" mpeg file -- something that many readers should be OK with.

Ok, let's try again, since markfm's last posting is very straight-forward. I just added a few comments to make it even easier to go for people who never used the command-line.

1) Öffne eine Befehlszeile (im Startmenu gibt es irgendwo einen Eintrag zum Starten von Programmen, etc. Dort "cmd" eingeben und bestätigen; sorry habe windows schon seit ewigen nicht mehr benutzt und nie regelmäßig; kann es daher nicht besser beschreiben)

2) wechsle mit "dir" in das verzeichnis, in das du VLC installiert hast.

3) verschiebe deine avi-datei dorthin oder ersetze "input_file.avi" in der folgenden zeile mit dem kompletten pfad

4) führe folgendes aus (eine zeile!):

vlc input_file.avi :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=2048,scale=1,acodec=mp2a,ab=96,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url="outfile.mpg"}}

Du erhältst dann nach einiger Zeit (kann bis zu mehreren Stunden dauern, da Video und Audio komplett umkodiert werden) eine Datei namens "outfile.mpg" im VLC-Verzeichnis, die du ziemlich normal benutzen kannst.

Habe das genau gemacht, passiert aber nix....auch nicht im hintergrund

Sorry...nehme alles zurück...es klappt...hast aber recht, geht wirklich sehr langsam, aber es geht...mal sehen ob das Ergebniss (morgen Mittag frühestens *lach*) auch stimmt....

I record the Audio with an Audio Programm, but i can´t get together, because the Movie is Running to Fast !!!!
