Vlc doesn't work!

I installed the player, and every time I try to play a video file from my computer I do not getting any image at all, just a meter that goes fast from one end to the other!

I don't understand, every other player is running fine through windows xp

Any chance these files use Real, or Indeo, or some other proprietary CODEC?

Open View--Messages before trying to play one of these movies. Start a movie, just let it run a few seconds, then Stop it.

Look in the message log -- what Error messages appear? Any message looking like:
main No suitable decoder for...
