vlc is great!

Postby Guest » 20 Nov 2004 21:22

I'm sorry, but I just had the strong feeling to let everybody (especially the devs - dunno if they hang round here) know how great VLC is.
Really. Probably the best program I've ever used. It's just so good.
I'm using it regularly on Windows, Linux and BeOS. I just can't understand how anybody can not use VLC. Why isn't it better known?

thx,
daniel

Thanks, that's always something that is nice to hear.

Actually, VLC is really quite known under MacOS X as it has been for a long time the only decent DVD and DivX player, and it remains one of the most used.

We work on making VLC more used, of course, but it's not that easy. But, indeed, VLC's popularity is growing.

Yeah :D
I'm agree with you Guest.
And not only for the video compatibility and quality rendering .
I want to say that VLC is the the best program I've ever used to listening
my MP3, because I'm demanding on the quality of sound ( I listen my musik with a Class A amplifier and big JMLab column speakers) and all
imperfections are audible.
Since I discover VLC on a forum and download it my Winamp is definitly off. And I don't speak about WMP which for me is to bad for mp3 (except for the 30Hz band in the equaliser ;) )

Thanks to all the development Team for this great job.

I really wish I could share your enthusiasm, as VLC does promise a lot and would truly be right on the money if it delivered.

The fact remains, however, that I have yet to watch a streaming video clip without having VLC crash. And when VLC crashes, it crashes badly - it locks up the entire system, making it no small feat to get the system back up without a cold restart. I've been running WinXP since it first came out, and I've yet to see another application bring the system to its knees the way VLC does. So hats off on that one, at least! :D

On the plus side, VLC does play a great number of video files that programs like Windows Media Player and Quicktime give up on, so I'm not giving up hope just yet. I'm currently browsing these here forums for pointers to anything that might indicate me doing something wrong, but it's looking gloomy thus far.

Anyway, it's not the end of the world. I'll definitely be here to check out the 1.0 release! :D

Yeah, odd thing it seems VideoLan either works great for folk or for others
it behaves very badly.

WOrks fine here and I'm using it on a Windows98se system (1.2ghz AMD and AGING Soundblaster Live .....).

I read other posts here about WIn98 systems giving major fits with VideoLan yet mine seems fine. SHrug.

I suspect Videolan must have major issues with certain specific hardware combinations..

Not to say Videolan never messess up badly here. I have had it force me to hit power switch in order to shut down. However having said that I have had
some media (video) files do similar acts when using the horrible WIndows Media player.

GO figure.
