Run Videolan in System Tray

Postby Daahli » 07 Mar 2004 10:59

Hey,

First off I've been using Videolan for just about a month now, and I gotta say it's truly an excellent piece of software! Congrats and thanks to all the developers!

Now my question: I'm running VL on windows and was just wondering whether it is possible to hide the program in the system tray when it's running rather than have it use up space on my taskbar. Is there such an option (I looked but couldn't find it)?

Thanks a lot and keep up the great work! :)

Learn to love the command vlc --longhelp --advanced :)
Windows Service interface
--ntservice-install, --no-ntservice-install
Install Windows Service (default disabled)
--ntservice-uninstall, --no-ntservice-uninstall
Uninstall Windows Service (default disabled)
--ntservice-name <string> Display name of the Service
--ntservice-extraintf <string>
Extra interface modules

Hi markfm,

I've been trying to start vlc from a bat file in service mode with the parameters you showed me, however without success :(

Can you (or someone else) help me with a good batch script, that runs vlc in the background (taskbar / service), listening for a network stream to come in?

at this moment I have in my batch file the following:

vlc -vvv --sout-display --ntservice-install udp:// :sout=#duplicate{dst=display}

Thanks for your help!

I too have difficulties decoding the --lognhelp --advanced output.

What I want to achieve is this simple: read a URL and produce an HTTP stream. I also want this to start when the machine (winxp pro) boots and it should go on until it is shut down, i.e. I want the program to produce the HTTP output even when no user is logged on.

Could anyone give me a command line that does this?

Ehh... why the hell don't you just use linux then?
Seems exactly what it's useful for....

@The DJ

If we just use Linux, then what is the Windows port of VLC for?

even though everyone seems to drive Land Rovers in the cities these days, the cars were originally developed to drive off track. You don't use a fiat panda for cross country work.

Very well said, but doesn't alleviate the problem at all.
