Playing DVD files from my hard drive

Postby shakelton » 06 Oct 2004 21:07

I ripped a DVD to my hard drive. How do I get it to play the entire movie like it would be played from an actual disc? I can only get it to play one file at a time without setting up a playlist. I'd prefer just to be able to open and play the movie just like it was running from the dvd media in the dvd drive. The "open file" capability only lets me open one file. The "open DVD" won't let me browse to the movie itself like I can when the DVD is in the drive. Any suggestions?

I think this has been answered elsewhere...

If I wanted to try it, I would probably create a share, then map network drive.

Say you copied the DVD to c:\userdata\mymovie.

Make the myvoie folder a share, then literally use Windows to do a Map network drive, call it the G: drive (or whatever). Use the normal Play disc mechanism, just pointing it to G: instead of D:

(The answer elsewhere may be different/better, this is just what I would try)

Hey - it took me a while to figure out how to map the folder, but it seems to have worked. Thanks bro.

No need to do anything funky.
Just drag&dropping the folder containing the rip into VLC is enough.
