Video file editing/conversion

Postby mikek » 10 Dec 2003 17:48

I am using VLC to view video files that I have imported to my computer from my ReplayTV device via the DvArchive program. VLC works very well and shows the file with no problems. However, I would like to be able to edit that file to get rid of certain segments (commercials, etc) from the file. Can this be done with any of the VideoLAN tools? Is there any way to convert the file to a format that can be read by Windows Movie maker for example? I basically have a recorded copy of a PBS broadcast and want to edit out the pledge night segments and save the file. Thanks,
Mike

or how about a CODEC

In addition to the info I posted originally, is there a CODEC available that will allow WMP to play the imported video file?

VideoLan are tools for playing and streaming not for editing.
You can use the advanced streamoutput and transcode settings to create different file, though i would advice against it.
They are more suited for transcoding network streams.
Don't use PMs for support questions.

VirtualDub is the best thing to use, depending on the video format of your file. http://www.virtualdub.com
