I have the same stuttering problem, I can share my particular subtitle, if it will help you diagnose the problem. I have observed that the longer the text, the more frames are skipped, the longer the video stops. The shorter the text, the less the effect ...

I am having the same issue, video freezes for a few frames every time a new subtitle is displayed, otherwise runs smoothly.
So far I only tested subtitles with MKV files.
Until there is a fix for this I preffer not using subtitles because this is quite annoying..

Playing a video with subtitles, when the new subtitle displays, the video skips a frame or two.

Use aero and D3D. If you don't, use dIrectdraw output.
