Now it plays for 2:04 and stops, any other suggestions

When i download a avi file it plays on my pc, but when i copy it to my usb drive it will not play. i get error message "fixing avi index" this might take awhile. It doesn't do it every time, sometimes i have no trouble with it at all.

sometimes i get that the file is broken, sometimes the whole movie is there but won't play

When i copy an avi file from my hard drive ( "c" ) to my thumb drive (I) the files won't play on the i drive.
