- Change the value 1.0 to 2.0 in
Settings->Preferences->Video->Zoom video
Make user you check Advanced settings to see it.
- Save config

To join avi files, use VirtualDub

File->Open File->Subtitle options

Or use a program like "Subtitle Workshop" http://www.urusoft.net/downloads.php?lang=1 to fix the subtitle file.

Change drive letters here:
Settings->Input / Codecs->General->Default devices

Check if you have the same behaviour when you enable maximum Post processing (during playback, go to Video->Post processing->6)

Solution: 1) Change the setting as mentioned by erbsen, save and exit VLC. 2) Start vlc.exe from the directory it's installed in ( %Program Files% \VideoLan\VLC) Reason: If you are starting VLC using the shortcut created by the installation, you get this problem as it adds the parametrs "--intf...
