Re: Does ANYONE know how to fix the "Libav/FFmpeg" problem on Windows?

So what happened?

How to do this?

Any VLC geniuses brave enough to give a reply that works.

What Does This Graphic Mean?

I have no idea what this means! Press button 1? 2? 3?
Drag side to side? Over the top? Around in a circle?
Any clues would be nice.

Another Question About The Snapshot File Name

I use this format in version 2.2.1 for the preference "Video snapshot file prefix": $N_$T_ I get a typical file name like: "Somefilm.mkv_00_00_02_2015-09-17-00h14m05s750.jpg" Is there a way to not have the date and time that is appended after the video name and timestamp? I am aw...

Re: Save Settings in VLC

I have read this thread. It is still unclear how to save in Effects and Settings. My feature request for the second time is: add a few presets to the Dynamic Compression tab and a SAVE button on that screen. Why, for instance is there a save button on Equalizer but not Compression sliders within th...

Re: VLC Using Massive Amounts of Memory

OK, my bad! Version 2.1.0 of VLC also uses up massive amounts of RAM when playing .mkv files. If I play the .mkv file while I have my other usual programmes running, such as Firefox, Sunbird and Vuze, the amount of memory used up by VLC causes my PC to lock up. VLC itself stops dead. If VLC could du...

VLC Using Massive Amounts of Memory

Just a few minutes after starting VLC 2.0.8 running on Windows XP it uses up massive amounts of memory until it freezes and my disc is rattling away, probably something to do with the page file. By that time, nearly all my 4 GB of memory is used up. So why should VLC start to do this? It has been wo...

VLC 2.0.3 Does Not Save Preferences On Windows XP

I notice this problem has been reported by others. Here is one report: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=103019 I have no idea what the one response to that report means. Here is another: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=91154 This was not a problem in v1.1.11. So ...

Re: What Is The Format For "Subtitle auto-detection paths"

"subs" or "subtitles" should work in 2.0.2
Strange - I could have sworn I'd replied already to this topic!

Anyway, thanks for the replies and, yes, "subs, subtitles" in "Tools, Preferences, Subtitles/OSD" works.

What Is The Format For "Subtitle auto-detection paths"

I am running VLC "2.0.2 Twoflower" on XP SP3. Usually, I get subtitle files in one of two folders - either "subs" or "subtitles". These are the usual names of the sub-folders - the parent folder contains the video file. So I want to tell VLC to always look in either the...

Hey I've got the trick for this thing called 'equalizer settings on VLC". -on VLC 1.8.8 version press Ctrl+P to go on Preferences settings (Tools, Preferences) -on the bottom left at "Show settings" choose "All" -in left panel choose Audio > unfold (Audio > Filter...

Sorry for late reply - I've just downloaded 2.0.2 (vlc-2.0.2-win32.exe) and both problems have been fixed - the subs work automatically and the snapshot is the correct width and height!

Thanks very much!

Re: Streaming/Transcoding failed: VLC could not open the enc

VLC 2.0.2 will be released during this week. (hopefully) Thanks, VLC_help. I've just noticed that "Subtitles auto-detection" doesn't appear to be working with this nightly build - "vlc-2.1.0-git-20120410-0006-win32.exe". I have the .srt file in the same folder as the .avi file t...

Re: Streaming/Transcoding failed: VLC could not open the enc

Thank you, Jean-Baptiste Kempf. I could not find v. 2.0.2 so I am now using "vlc-2.1.0-git-20120410-0006-win32.exe", which appears to be working fine.

Streaming/Transcoding failed: VLC could not open the encoder

Previous to today, I was using VLC 1.11. Using that old version, I took a snapshot of a paused video and the snapshot appeared in the correct folder. But the snapshot was distorted - it did not have the same height/width ratio as the original video. So I tried to adjust the snapshot preferences - To...

Please Note: I posted the non-bold text below before I saw the other replies to tesuji's post which was on the bottom of page 4. I didn't see all the posts on page 5! I'll leave my findings here anyway. Thanks again, tesuji. Thank you tesuji - that works for me, too, with version 1.1.11. If I set t...

Re: Mouse cursor does not hide in fullscreen (1.1.2)

I don't think it'll be fixed any time soon as the guys at Videolan are in denial that it is their problem. The eggs will be several layers thick on their faces soon... :) lol! Yeah this problem is getting to be really annoying. I first noticed it after updating from 1.0.5 (Goldeneye) quite some tim...

Re: Mouse cursor does not hide in fullscreen (1.1.2)

But, aside from all that, have you any idea when a release will be issued with this problem fixed? Are people at Videolan actively working on this? AFAIK nobody is working with this, since problem seems to related to additional programs, like uTorrent. Hmm, well I find that quite incredible ...

Re: Mouse cursor does not hide in fullscreen (1.1.2)

Thanks VLC_Help. But what I don't understand is that this problem only started for me when I completely uninstalled the latest version, 1.1.7., including personal settings. I'm pretty sure the cursor faded out correctly when I was using v1.1.7 before, but I uninstalled it because of a problem with r...

Re: Mouse cursor does not hide in fullscreen (1.1.2)

I've uninstalled version 1.1.7 and re-installed version 1.0.3. Now the mouse cursor fades away with the other controls when in full screen mode. The problem with bugs like this is, Videolan and VLC will never get over the bad press associated with this stupid, irritating bug. It's quite sad really b...
