Re: sound problem

If you like flashy software like registry cleaners, disk optimizers and sound enhancers such as DFX, I have an Eiffel Tower to sell to you. I uninstalled that DFX crapware from my XP SP3 machine, it would not even let me run VLC. I suggest you do the same, at least to try if your audio works without...

Re: Vlc player has No Sound

@ILC77: You must rename the executable file vlc.exe as vlc2.exe , not the manifest file vlc.exe.manifest . If Windows Explorer hides the .exe extension by default, you can identify the proper file by its cone icone and the value in the Type column. Try also double-clicking on the executable and open...

Re: Severe Audio Stuttering

My similar problem last year was related to power. It finally went away by itself, and I could also remove the stutter most of the times by removing/reinserting the power cord, as weird as it sounds. KMPlayer audio worked fine at the time, I figured the reason was that both apps did not have the sam...

Re: Lost audio (after Windows Update?)

I eventually got it working again, changing the output module in the audio preferences to WaveOut, and closing/restarting VLC. The program should tell the user that such a change require a reboot! I tried several output modules before that, but assumed the changes would be applied instantly, and of ...

Lost audio (after Windows Update?)

I lost the audio output in VLC 2.1.3 Rincewind on Windows XP (old Asus EEPC 1000H). I had this version of VLC installed since it released, with no audio problem. It happened right after this week's Windows Update that I ran yesterday morning. I can't tell for sure if it's linked, as I didn't notice ...

Re: Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

Didn't have many stuttering songs this time with or without time-stretching audio, at least not continuously, but get some stutters eventually, for like 15 seconds or so at a time, on several songs. As far as I can make it, it is linked to high CPU usage, and maybe it appears to be linked to battery...

Re: Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

There is no audio scaling setting in Audio Preferences. There is a Scaletempo audio filter in the advanced "all" view with 3 different settings. Is that the one? I tried to reset all 3 settings to 1 for the first and 0 for the other 2, didn't change anything. How do I disable audio scaling...

Re: Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

By the way, it would be great to add a header to the logs, with the version number, for instance.
Then you could add a file attachment feature to the forum and allows only logs (or screenshots.)

Re: Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

I went ahead and reinstalled the latest nightly, here are the 2 logs. But they all end at "Inserting n zeroes" and won't go further (I tried several times) so they are less useful than the ones I sent before. On sector: main debug: adding item `1-01 Panic Cord.m4a' ( file:///D:/music/To%20...

Re: Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

Yes, I reinstalled the official build since. Do you need the latest nightly?
The symptoms were identical, so I didn't think it would matter, but it's no problem for me to reinstall it. Just say the word.
And where the heck is Cone, France? It's not the same as my grand-parents' Cosne, is it? ;)

Re: Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

It says "timing screwed" and "audio output is starving!" Unfortunately my name is not "timing" nor "audio output." Can't see a way to attach files, so here's the Tools|Messages output (I assume this is the log you mention.) I copied two logs so you can compare...

Re: Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

I already did, said so in my first post.
By the way, KMPlayer stutters on battery too now, so definitely has to do with the power system, not with VLC. I'll follow up on the Asus forum thread only, I think we can kill the thread in the VLC forum.

Constant audio stutter on WinXP/Asus Eee PC 1000H

I have recently been experiencing a constant audio stutter on mp3, mp4, avi files. It happens only on VLC, on the old 2.0.1 version from last year, the 2.0.6 current version, or even the latest 2.1.0 pre1-20130507-0003 nightly build. Nothing changed on the software or hardware sides. Other media pla...

Re: Instructions to install the nightly builds

"Builds stripped from symbols" is a bit long compared to "debug builds," that's why they're called "free builds" at Microsoft, as in "free from symbols."
This way both types of builds have a short name easy to reference and distinguish.

Re: Instructions to install the nightly builds

Thanks, j-b, I went straight to the trunk debug build for the logger, although I suppose it's also present in the free builds, that's probably why I didn't look too much on the free builds and the exe. Actually I prefer to run the build from the extracted folder, I suppose installing VLC via the exe...

Re: Instructions to install the nightly builds

Sorry, but my first post had everything to do with "Website". I mentioned a specific web page that has links to how to download the nightly builds but leaves out how to install them. Can't be more relevant or precise. Besides, even after I learned the information from @Ludrax, the web site...

Re: Instructions to install the nightly builds

No offense @Lotesdelere but only builders would know where to find these INSTALL files, not advanced users. It's precisely because I have been an advanced user for 20 years, just not familiar with git, that I prefer to ask those who know rather than guess. People who are willing to help wouldn't go ...

Re: Instructions to install the nightly builds

OK, maybe I should have mentioned that I am also personally interested in the setup instructions if you have them, even if you can't fix the web site by adding them there. Posting the instructions in this thread would be good to me too! ^-^

Instructions to install the nightly builds

Hi, are there setup instructions on the web site on how to install the nightly builds? I looked at the README file included in the builds, they contain these 2 lines: INSTALL - Installation instructions. INSTALL.win32 - Installation instructions for the Win32 version of VLC. But there are no INSTALL...

Blurry DVD playback with Firefox' plugin-container.exe

It's most likely a Firefox bug, but I thought VLC users/devs should be aware of it: Since version 3.6.12, Firefox launches a "plugin-container.exe" sub-process, for instance if you open YouTube. This process was actually introduced in 3.6.4, but I probably went straight from 3.6.3 to 3.6.1...
