I have the same problem. DBus is installed

"Package dbus-1.1.2-14.el5.i386 already installed and latest version"

but VLC configure still cannot see it!!

The firefox problem is resolved by showing videos in pop up windows instead of the main window.

This issue shows up if you have Snow Leopard and 64-bit of Safari. The plug-in cannot run when your safari is in 64-bit. Right-click on Safari App and Get Info, then check the 32-bit checkbox, restart Safari and it should work fine.
