I have tried to update twice, once in 10.10.2 and now in 10.10.3. The update downloads but doesn't run. So, I tried to do an install, but that also failed because OSX doesn't recognize the .img file. Any suggestions?

I found those comments cryptic, too, however, I figured out what he probably meant to say. I tried removing the AppData/Roaming/vlc folder. No change. I have audio in all applications i've tried with the exception of VLC and WMV. I also installed software called Total Recorder recently. Not sure if that caused a problem.
