I have exactly the same issue. I thought the problem was with my computer so I tried KMP and it plays fine full screen on my second monitor.

Resetting preferences didn't help, me but disabling built in audio card which wasn't even being used did help.

Same story - choppy audio on win7 and vlc 1.1.1 or vlc 1.1.2. In all media files.
