I use output module alsa and have also this problem with vlc 1.2-git, and now with vlc 1.1.9
I can't use pulseaudio because of some problems

Fixed for me (bad solution)
Go to the VLC settings, then Audio -> Output module - set to ALSA (in my system "default" equal to pulseaudio, seems its the reason of troubles). Restart VLC, but now, no other software can play music with vlc, vlc playback must be stoped, seems vlc lock alsa (

I try record some online radio with VLC, this radio provides info about current song and VLC show message in tray when song change, but save all in one file, how make to VLC create new file for each new song?
