Re: 1.1 RC MAC version issue autodetect subtitle

Same issue here as well, in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Even tried resetting preferences; no luck.

Edited to add: Strictly an issue with autodetecting external subtitle files, I should add. Anything muxed into an .ogv, .mp4 or .mkv works.

Bumping to front page because this still isn't fixed in the 2006-01-14 nightly. I really want to use the nightlies, but I can't if they won't play DVDs.

For the record, this is not a cross-region problem; I'm trying to play a Region 1 disc in a Region 1 drive.

DVD playback broken in nightlies?

I'd like to use one of the nightly builds from the nightlies.videolan.org server (so I can use some of the new functionality, plus capture PNG screenshots which are disabled in the 'official' build for reasons discussed previously); however, although they play files from a local disk perfectly fine,...

Re: japanese subtitles?

i also am using vers. .8.4 and i have many troubles trying to get a japanese subrip file to work. what is the correct subtitles encoding to use? i've tried many so far, some produce a jumbled mess, no luck Most likely it's Shift_JIS, which is the default encoding on both Windows and Mac for Japanese.

Missing PNG in 0.8.4 final is a Mac-only problem, due to the version of ffmpeg included - see this thread for more info.

Would it be possible to release a 10.3+-only version that does support PNG, alongside a Jaguar-compatible version that doesn't? I've seen this sort of dual release in a number of other open-source projects; though it does sort of take away the simplicity of having a single version for all releases o...

Well, I found one way of doing it by changing some settings in the global preferences... not exactly the most elegant solution, but it appears to work, based on the info I'd read about the command line options: Input codecs - General: set 'Audio Track' and 'Subtitles Track' to the proper stream ID S...

Transcoding from GUI with choice of audio/subs

The Advanced Output options in VLC are quite nice, but I've been wondering about one thing. What I'd like to be able to do is to encode a .VOB ripped from DVD to another format, but with an alternate audio track from the default and with subtitles overlaid on the video. I know there are ways to do t...
