Open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before playback. It will complain if something is broken acceleration wise. Did this, no complaints. Did you activate the option for GPU ? If you're referring to the "Accelerated video output (Overlay)" option in the video tab, yes, it's enabled...
