Try changing the platform of your application to x86 instead of "Any CPU".

I can confirm the bug here as well. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, using VLC v1.1.2 downloaded from the website. For me adding any directory (that I've tried) to the media library causes the crash. Even trying to add innocent looking directories like "C:\hello" causes VLC to crash with the abov...
