Hi Leinad, I don't understand all this tar bz stuff so I downloaded vlc 1.0.5 as a torrent

Use the official download link posted three posts above.

Before hearing your advice I found and installed Version 1.0.5. It works fine. And before I reinstall the newest version I'll wait until it works without me having to delete folders to get it to run properly.

I'm having exactly the same problems as Leinad above. And every time I click to open VLC, before it even opens, I get a message saying that VLC has crashed and do I want to notify the developer. Drats. Where do I get the older version?
