Is there a way to make VLC player release a file after it's done playing so that it can be deleted from the hard drive without closing the program every time? How can I have VLC auto-disable the video screen when playing audio files so that I can have as small a window as possible? I know this was possible with older versions of VLC (pre v1.0??) but I don't see any option for this in the preferences.

Thanks for the suggestion of forcing mono. That seemed to fix it. I just assumed that VLC would auto-detect whether the file being played is mono or stereo and adjust accordingly. I guess not?
