Choppy playback since 1.0

Latest version of VLC on Win7-Ultimate: I check in every few years to say this. I have had choppy video playback since VLC 1.0 came out. The playback stutters slightly every couple of seconds and is most noticeable during full frame pans. This happens with videos from solid state drives, hard drives...

How to automatically repeat only one file?

2.7.8: I want to play one audio file either once or on repeat. Instead VLC goes on to play the next file in the current folder. I need to find a way to control this. I don't want it to go to the next file. There appears to be a repeat button on the main interface but it doesn't seem to do anything.

How to control screen?

2.7.8: the screen automatically goes dark a couple of seconds into a playback. How can I disable this behavior?

Re: HD Playback Stutter - Windows 8 - Media Player OK

Any VLC version > 1.x stutters for me on windows when playing DVDs (but Media Player is fine). I tried all the settings and suggestions but no solution. I use VLC 0.9.6 and it's great.

0.9.x forever

I'm not going above 0.9.6. Thankfully they offer the old versions! This is one of the last versions than play DVD on Windows without stuttering. It also rocks for FLAC too -- they were awesome back then.

Re: Video Stuttering while using both 2.0 and 1.1.11 HELP!!

I still find that .96 (for example, or .9x generally) is the last version that can play dvd's smoothly. 2.0 is still too much like watching a flip book animation. I don't know what it is, but it's unusable. My system specs are awesome, it's something in vlc. Vlc has been the joke on slashdot, incred...

Re: Reverse engineering dvd problems?

Preferences->All->Input/Codec
Put libmpeg2 in the prefered decoder box.
This makes the problem a lot worse. Choppiness at a higher rate than before.

Re: Reverse engineering dvd problems?

Try to force the mpeg2 decoder.
I can't find a setting for that in 1.1.8.

I am looking in "Tools/Preferences/Video Settings".

Need instructions to find that setting. Thanks.

Reverse engineering dvd problems?

Has anyone tried to look back at the source code changes between 0.9.9 and 1.0.0? The dvd performance dropped off a cliff. I just installed 0.9.9 and the video choppiness is gone -- it's like getting the newest, most advanced version, and it's like the vlc I remember having no problems. I used to us...

Persist DVD position

I have HP's quickplay on my laptop, and it remembers the DVD playback position when you close it. When you start the same DVD again, it resumes playback exactly where it was when stopped. This is a very useful feature. Perhaps VLC could do this also.

You mean SPDIF output?
Yes. I always have to use the context menu for audio to set this.

automatic dolby digital for dvd?

Is there any way to have dolby digital automatically enabled when the audio device supports it? I have to set the audio device manually on every dvd.

1.1.5: win7-64 dvd video is jerky

1.1.5: dvd video is jerky. There is a slight pause in playback every 1/2 sec. or so. You can see this when there is motion in the video. Media Player has completely smooth video by comparison on the same computer.

1.1.0: Firefly remote and keyboard problems

vlc 1.1.0, win7-64 ultimate My Firefly remote doesn't work with vlc 1.1.0. It worked ok with the previous version. All I use it for is pause/play. I can't find a way to make it work with 1.1.0. It would be nice if I could get all the main control buttons to work. Also, I am unable to stop vlc from c...
