At long last, this issue is resolved! I downloaded the latest 2.2.5 nightly and now, all files open in full screen. VLC usurps focus whether or not another window was on top of it and it never plays in windowed mode unless I want it to. Fantastic.

This seems to be a new annoyance. Even if I set the installer to keep old settings or specifically set a custom install with all file associating unchecked , it always always changes my file names to the generic 'VLC file" and every icon is the generic cone. This is extremely obnoxious. Not eve...

If I remember right, the first two conditions are right but the last one isn't. I'm pretty sure it will freeze whether it has focus or not. I can't really test anymore unless I downgrade. Try using a recent nightly build.

I don't know how your solution would work, preske. If you use the installer, it just uninstalls your existing version for you and it deletes everything if you have it remove your preferences and such.
