Re: VLC 2.0.1 crashes on accessing Customize Interface

Well, no replies, but I found a quick way around the problem. I STILL like to know if you're in Preferences on a particular page (like Audio) & hit "Reset Preferences," does that reset prefs for EVERYTHING? Fortunately, I backed up the VLC ini file after installing 2.0.1 & making a...

VLC 2.0.1 crashes on accessing Customize Interface

Been using VLC portable 2.0.1 in Vista x64 for a good while. The interface / toolbar had maybe 4 - 5 advanced icons, all on same line as default toolbar. Worked fine for weeks. Today, opened VLC & noticed the advanced option icon were on a line above default toolbar (now 2 rows vs 1 in past). We...

Re: video is blocky(?) and stops working all the time.....

With all due respect VLC_help, I think waiting for v2.0.2 is wishful thinking to solve a problem dealing w/ a relatively complex situation as using DVD shrink, converting to ISO files. I imagine if VLC won't play these but other players will (as occasionally happens), it may require settings changes...

Re: VLC 2.0.1 temporarily freezing

When I play one of the ISO files in VLC, at 3 places in the movie it temporarily seems to freeze (for about a second or so), and then continues playing – but it has skipped a second or so of the movie. It’s not a DVD shrink issue, since if I play the original DVD directly, the same thing happens. I...

mattaconda, You don't appear to have uploaded a short clip from the problem files to one of the upload sites mentioned, then posted the LINK TO THAT FILE here. Experienced users will want to play a bit of it on their players & look at its data. It would help others reading your posts, if you cou...

Re: video is blocky(?) and stops working all the time.....

Do what Lotesdelere suggested - the log files may contain info on the problem. Did you not see in the drop box for Video Output modules choices for ones listed in "WindowsFAQ-2.0" for XP: For Windows XP and younger you can try DirectX 3D, DirectX, OpenGL and Windows GDI video output module...

Re: VLC 2.0.1 temporarily freezing

Where the FAQ 2.0 says: For Windows XP and younger you can try DirectX 3D, DirectX, OpenGL and Windows GDI video output modules. With Windows Vista and with Windows 7, both DirectX and Windows GDI output modules will disable Aero, so if you want to use Aero, please use DirectX 3D (should be default)...

Re: video is blocky(?) and stops working all the time.....

HI, What are the formats & resolution of movies that freeze? Is is all or only certain formats / high resolutions? Could be several problems - I'm not an expert. One issue I had going to VLC 2.x was many (but not all) hi res (1720x1080, etc.) would freeze. If I clicked the seek bar farther down,...

Re: won't play hi-res mkv

I see there were no definitive answers to your question. I ran into a similar problem on 1920x1080 vids, after upgrading my GPU drivers. Suddenly VLC 2 wouldn't play them. It would open them, display a frame, stall on that frame while seeker button advanced. If I clicked on another point on the seek...

CPU acceleration option location?

In VLC preferences, Advanced >CPU, wasn't there a "use CPU acceleration" option (if system supported)? There is no option on that VLC pref page anymore, but I could swear I used to check use it (or was already), as I have a quad processor. That pref page is now blank except for text, "...

Question & comment_VLC not detecting video output

VLC 2.0.1 portable in Vista x64 suddenly stopped playing some vids. At 1st, I thought it was only WMV. Then figured out it was any 1920 x 1080 file, but others are still playing. Realizing I'd just upgraded my Nvidia GPU drivers 301.42, I figured it must be related, but really don't know the exact s...

Thanks. Was I correct that the 2 files, vlcrc & vlc-qt-interface.ini , were both needed to copy all preferences & customizations into the new version?

OK to copy preference config file from v.1.1.11 to v2.0

Would there be any problems copying the preferences file(s) from v1.1.11 into v2.0, including customizations in the interface toolbar editor (added icons)? Is there more than one file I'd need to copy to get all changed preferences from the old to new version? I believe vlcrc & possibly vlc-qt-i...

Re: Search in WMV files is broken in version 0.9.x-1.0.x

I appreciate the reply. I'm not sure about the overall logic. Even if "there really aren't any video services anymore that would share DRM free WMV videos," what does that have to do w/ millions of people having WMV files stored & wanting a player for them? Nothing. What does it have t...

Re: Search in WMV files is broken in version 0.9.x-1.0.x

There are multiple tickets for this already but most likely there won't be a perfect fix since WMV/ASF isn't very popular format. I was looking for info on VLC crashing when seeking in WMV files, when saw this post. How do you figure WMV isn't a popular format? Others may be becoming more popular, ...

Exact steps to enable VLC logging

Using VLC 1.1.11 in Vista x64 SP2 I searched & read what I could piece together on enabling logging / debugging logging. It's not quite as straight forward in VLC as some other apps. 1) Is logging only available PER video / audio file, or can it be turned on indefinitely? 2) What are exact steps...

Re: "save configuration"-uninstalling not save toolbar custo

Thanks again. Maybe I'm a bit slow (definite possibility), but if I understand your comments, some of VLC's behavior for creating / naming / saving profiles is diff than many apps. You can change the name in the file at any time but do not use it more than once. You mean change the name (in my case)...

Re: "save configuration"-uninstalling not save toolbar custo

Thanks madmetz, It seems very odd that "saving the configuration" file saved most settings from prior installation, but left a few out. All it had to do was use the old vlc-qt-interface.ini file. The toolbars & the editor seem same as prior version, so doesn't appear they had to discar...

Re: option to not save last file / folder opened?

Thanks solazy, "Those aren't explorer options. They're built into the prgms" : yes, but the "File Open/Save dialog box" is a 100% Windows API : if VLC programmers decides not to use this API, they'll have a lot of work to rewrite it to mask some file names (and last used folder, ...
