What controls playlist screen showing at startup?

In VLC 2.0.6 / 2.0.7, Vista x64, I must've made a change in prefs (or something changed) - that now the playlist (full screen) displays at every start. It's always empty for me, so no point. Can't find setting in prefs to not show it, but the vlc-qt-interface.ini file shows "playlist-visible=tr...

Re: Play NON Youtube sites' videos?

Thank you. Though it may not be completely over my head, for someone that doesn't work w/ scripts all the time, it may be beyond my learning time limit. What I did find (all depends on the actual web page), sometimes hovering the play button for specific vid on the site (IF... you don't have Flash e...

Re: Play NON Youtube sites' videos?

Thanks for reply. By that, I assume you mean VLC will open unencrypted FLV files one has DOWNLOADED? If so, gets back to issue of d/l entire file, only to see it's junk. Even on Youtube music videos, most of what I check out, I stop after < 1 min cause bad quality, not interested, etc. But random we...

Play NON Youtube sites' videos?

I tried playing flash videos off of other sites besides Youtube in VLC. Not tried dozens of sites, but most seem to start the caching process, then quit - & nothing. Is there a reason VLC or other players w/ similar capability ONLY work on Youtube & not most other sites w/ flash content? Obv...

Re: Can VLC auto - load youtube URLs

Thanks. That's quicker. No way to add those shortcut / functions as icons to toolbar / control bar? I'd think that would be one used a LOT. Way more than many options available to customize the control bar.

I can remember Ctrl + V, but, uh... other members of the house may not.

Can VLC auto - load youtube URLs

In VLC 2.0.6, Must the Youtube video address (currently in browser address bar) always be copied manually into the Open Media > Network address bar? For instance, SMPlayer will already have the URL of the page / video in your browser's address bar, entered into its "Enter a URL" box, when ...

Re: Support for OpenGL 3

Well, I could crop out... parts. I don't know this answer, because never tried to u/l HI RES images to a hosting site. To have any chance of showing fair comparisons, they'd have to be HQ images. To show true quality, need to show more than a nose, or dog's leg. :D I can TAKE them, but u/l them is a...

Re: Support for OpenGL 3

I can't speak to very technical details of GL3 vs other video output modes. I'd rather use VLC - I find it much more user friendly. This isn't a pitch to use MPlayer2. I've tried to get VLC to match overall quality of MPlayer2's GL3. http://mplayer2.srsfckn.biz/ Video output ...It’s a good idea to t...

Re: Support for OpenGL 3

GL3 is a mplayer code. It cannot be ported easily. A lot of things aren't easy , but are still done. Are there any plans to add any type of "GL3"? Similar to (or other), that MPlayer2 uses, that DOES make a video quality difference, on many vids? I've compared many vids, side by side usin...

Re: Support for OpenGL 3

OK, I understand. Too bad. GL3 doesn't make a huge difference on EVERY single video - just some, mostly higher res. On ones where it does, it's sometimes quite noticeable. In most other respects, VLC has Mplayer / Mplayer2 beat.

Then gray out / disable the Advanced >CPU options until it's fixed. People wonder why they can't see the options/ settings & waste your time asking questions. :)

Preferences/Advanced/CPU Features blank

In VLC 2.0.1 / 2 - preferences / Advanced / CPU features page is blank. Should there be settings there (as I believe there were in past versions) or is it intentionally blank? If intentional, shouldn't the preference option be removed or some simple statement added like, "these CPU options are ...

Re: Support for OpenGL 3

OK.... fair enough. Though that doesn't help me understand the issue. Maybe I used the wrong terms in the "VLC Feature Requests." As said, I'm no expert on video output drivers. GL3... Open GL3. My mistake. I'd have guessed they were very similar in function. I incorrectly assumed MPlayer(...

Re: Support for OpenGL 3

Really? I'm no expert, but sure seems like it does (on some vids) & others more educated in the topic than me think it does. I'm not one to "convince myself" something looks / sounds / works better, just because it's newer or more expensive. Quite the opposite. Why does the newest GL3 ...

The link to bug reporting site from this page http://www.videolan.org/support/#bugs, actually links to httpS://www.videolan.org/support/#bugs. As such, there is no certificate when https://www.videolan.org/support/#bugs loads & Firefox issues a warning. The actual site is accessible w/o secure c...

Support for OpenGL 3

I assume nothing is in the works for supporting openGL 3 video output drivers? Searched forums & Trac - find nothing. A few posts about GL2. I'm no expert on video output drivers. Did try SMPlayer2 / mplayer2 - that supports GL3 (& so does my card, as well as many fairly recent cards). My Ge...

Re: How to DISable logging

Thanks. In part, I meant toolbar customizations. They are stored in vcl-qt-interface.ini & are just a bunch of numbers representing values & customizations. However, in a round about way, you helped me find where the value is stored to start the logging process w/ each file played. Though th...

Re: How to DISable logging

As said, this is 2.0.1. Holy c***. Delete all my customizations just to stop it from logging? Must be an easier way. It would be VERY nice if the config file was text, instead of a bunch of numbers, so users could find / fix problems like this. Actually, after setting the verbosity = 0 in Preference...

After starting logging, I can't seem to disable it. When 1st enabled it, in Tools>Preferences>Advanced>Logging, I set verbosity = 2, then in View, clicked Messages (in VLC 2.0.1, no check mark appears by "Messages" to show it's enabled / disabled). Can't turn off logging or stop the messag...

Re: If MediaInfo can't see a file, is the file corrupted?

Sort of a learning exercise for me. Not totally sure of significance, but looked at one problem mp4 file in a hex editor - that will begin play, but won't advance frames w/o clicking new spot(s) on seek bar. It had data in 1st part of file, but 0's in last part. Another similar size mp4 showed no &q...

Re: If MediaInfo can't see a file, is the file corrupted?

I'm no expert on video headers or corrupt files, but it's interesting. You'd think it'd be fairly easy for software to look at video headers. Unless the header is totally missing, that software could show the header, even if missing some data. Maybe there is such software, but it apparently isn't Me...

Re: VLC 2.0.1 crashes on accessing Customize Interface

Not clear on your reply, "No, only the prefs themselves...". Maybe I wasn't clear - I was only talking about preferences. I meant, while in Preferences (which has many areas - audio, video, etc.), while on ONE preference page / area, does the reset preferences button - that appears at bott...

Re: after closing VLC, i can't open it again, right away.

I don't have W7, but I imagine it's taking the VLC.exe process a while to close (if look in task manager). No idea why it'd be taking longer. Could you use the VLC GUI & click on File> Open for another file, instead of waiting 40 sec? It shouldn't take that long to shut down, unless something's ...

If MediaInfo can't see a file, is the file corrupted?

I'm using MediaInfo in Vista x64. Have 1 or 2 mp4 files that don't play correctly in VLC or MPC-HC. File will start & show a frame, but frames don't advance as the progress indicator moves. If click farther down seeker bar, it displays another frame (often quite clearly), but generally doesn't a...
