if vlc window is not in focus, then mutilmedia keyboard controls only affect windows volume , not VLc volume ( for me anyway).so just click outside of VLC window then adjust volume
I know that, but the problem is when you're watching a movie, that's very annoying.

But I don't understand why isn't there an option in Preferences --> Hotkeys to disable the Volume Up and Down, actually there's a hotkey Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Down, but strangely the Mouse Wheel Up and Down and the Volume Up and Down media keys aren't there.
