This error still occurs with VLC 1.1.1. The font cache file is never created on the network drive. I just thought I would add that, like DJX, I searched my entire hard drive and network home directory and I could find no cache-2 file anywhere.

I installed 1.1.0 at home and I do not have this issue. The font file is created in the typical appdata\vlc directory (C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\vlc) and it is only created once. It appears that, for me, the issue is related to the windows/network login redirecting %appdata...

I just double checked and that is correct. No cache file is created in %appdata%\vlc. I am using XP and my %appdata%\vlc directory is on a network drive. I don't know if that makes a difference.

I don't know about the OP but, for me, as I wrote in my post, yes it ends and no a cache file is never created.

I am having the same problem. Whenever I double click on a video file (mp4 or avi), I get a message that it is Building Font Cache.
