I have the same problem.

Version 1.1 is not very xp friendly I think.

You may be able to close it properly by right clicking on the task bar button thing where it shows an open window then close.
There is also the vlc keyboard shortcut ctrl+q .

err... disregard the last method.

I found two other ways, alt+f4 and right clicking on the open window rectangle thing in the mid section of the task bar and clicking close. That seems to be the best way. Yet another way is to right click on the top of the window and click close.

ctrl + Q works. I found another way too, when I right click on the tray icon and click quit that works too.

Ok, let us start with your Operating System, are you running windows 7?

Maybe uninstalling and re-installing would help. Be sure to restart after un-installing. and after installing too.

For me destroy vlc skin would have been perfect, however several things annoy me about it. I was not able to figure out how to customise anything,. It does not have a subtitles button. 1.1 works for me.

version 1.0.5 didn't seem to like my os but 1.0.3 was alright.
As a last ditch effort you could get an older version.

However I am confident that another member of this forum will help you to debug.

Oh look, older versions. I'm gonna test out version 1.1 and 1.0.6 to see if autoplay will function.

Everything works fine and so does opening through autoplay.

I gave version 0.8.6i a try and that solved the problem.

So what is the most stable and reliable version before 1.05?

i have the same problem with the same version.

I'll probably fix my problems by downloading an older version.
