Upgrade problem

When I tried to upgrade on my XP laptop after checking for new versions, it downloaded 1.11, but it would not install, saying there was a cryptographic error, download deleted. Tried twice more in case of a a corrupted download. Same problem. Then I downloaded 2.0 and installed it. It opened folders...

I have the same problem. Sometimes part of a sentence is displayed, sometimes just a word or part of one. Other times no text or the text displayed is totally unrelated to the dialog. I keep autorun disabled for security purposes, but I'd like VLC to open the DVD in the drive when I start it. Autohide of toolbars?

Is there a setting that auto-hides all the toolbars etc to create a minimal interface after a few seconds of playback and then returns them to the screen when the mouse is moved or clicked? I thought there was one but can't find it - or maybe it's something that's part of a different player.
