This is happens in Windows XP as well. Until a few months back I was using an older version of VLC (not sure which one, I would have to go back and check, but it was a version before it had the on screen control panel). Sounds like what was happening to me. Go to Tools>Preferences>Video>Display>Output: Default

I had inadvertently changed this option to OpenGL and my colors were basically reversed like that too. Hope that helps.

I searched the forums several times and I was not able to find if someone had posted this question already. I am using Windows XP and have VLC version 1.0.5.
