OK, I'm confused now...I know they're different encryptions, but why does that make one legal to decrypt and one illegal?

Blu ray licensing question

Hi, I've been following whether VLC might get blu ray support for a couple of months, and as I understand it the main problem is that you need the decryption keys, which to use legally you need a license from Sony, which wouldn't be free, so can't be used in free+open source software. My question is...

Ah - yesterday I'd gone to download 1.1.0-RC and it had been removed because of a memory leak, I see it's back up now so I'll go with that.
