That's weird, where do you get those files, i want to try it myself.
Maybe there is something wrong with the movie.
What kind of files are we talking about ? Avi, mpg ?

I don't think so, but it is possible that you have the option "Play and stop" activated.
Settings - Preferences - Playlist - General.

Just put every file that belongs to the movie into the playlist. Or if the files are in one folder you can play the whole directory: File - Open Directory - and navigate to the folder. Or: File - Open File - select every file you want to watch, if you have selected 20 files click "Open" an...

Maybe you forgot to check "Time display sub filter" at the "Subtitles/OSD" page.

That's the only thing i changed, it worked after saving and restarting VLC (0.8.4a).

Open VLC, press Ctrl+G to get the "Extended GUI" (Settings - Extended GUI).
After enabling "Adjust Image" you are able to change Hue, Contrast, Brightness, Saturation and Gamma.
