VLC Cannot Play Subtitled HDTV files from CAN/US

New North American HDTV broadcasts(ATSC) use MPEG Transport streams with advanced closed captions in the user data. In order to play them in most players the captions are converted to .srt subtitles, and the players then overlay the HD playback with the subs. This works with all players (MPC,GOM,ZOO...

Re: Question regarding Close Caption options

j-b thanks for the captions, but we need an option or preference to display them so this can be automatic rather than just manually thru the video tab. I am trying to stream these files using a command line and have no way of including the captions without an option. Thanks.

Re: .M2P Mpeg2 file with embedded close captions

You need to turn them on manually. use video tab, subtitle tracks, Closed Caption 1. To check a file for captions use MediaInfo program. It will report if EIA content is present by scanning beginning of file..

Multiple Different VLC Installs

Is it possible to have multiple Installs of VLC each with a different version? Due to bugs in various versions, I have a need to have an 8/15 nightly build installed to generate streams, but I would also like to have the released 1.1 installed for normal video playing, and the latest nightly build i...

slave 0 EOF - What does it mean?

I have a .ts file that plays correctly when no subtitle file is present but fails to play when a subtitle file is present. I am somewhat desprite to get this working so I tried remuxing the .ts file to .ps using Videoredo and captured logs for both. The .ts without a subtitle file opens and plays: -...

I have many .ts files with embedded closed captions. When playing them I can display the captions with the video/subtitles tab and chose the caption stream, however I wish to transcode with the caption s displayed using the VLC command line and can find no option to activate the captions like the su...

Re: Closed Caption on VLC 1.1.0

Yes but it would appear that the closed captions(in the user daa) can overlay the video and display only if there is in fact video frames to play. All my other .TS files with captions play with video and captions display fine but yours does not. Again, can you advise how to gain access to these capt...

Re: Closed Caption on VLC 1.1.0

jb2009: your sample test.ts file plays audio but the video is black using any of my many players, similarly my players which also display captions do not display your captions either. I don't understand this because MediInfo reports an MPEG-2 640x250 video stream and I can extract the captions to su...

Re: Processor issue when playing high def video..

You are really beating your head against the wall here. I had the same problem with my core2 duo 7200 system 2x2ghz. It just does not have the cpu power to decode. If you open Task manager or the CPU Meter iin Desktop gadgets you will see the cpu goes to 100% when you get those glitches. My solution...

Re: VLC - Vista - ts files no image or sound

Hi. TS files will not play if there is a matching .srt subtitle file or .sub or .txt There may be more extensions. Those files will be ignored and the file will play if you use the --no-sub-autodetect-file option but you will get no subtitles. See bug reports 3075 and 3516.

Well we are just two retired guys trying to offer an open and free solution to lots of other folks just like the VLC team is trying to do I think. We don't have any money to pay developers and are dependent on our own and others skills to make this happen. Sorry if I gave the impression otherwise. C...

Help with transcoding and streaming HiDef files

j-b and vlc-help, we need your help. We are attempting to implement an On Demand Mediaserver Solution using VLC to transcode with subtitles to lower definition and stream two of the latest format high definition video files, namely .flv files containing avc/aac streams (which is the format of captur...

Re: Transcoding to MPEG-2 MP2V

To workaround a bug, the previous post includes the process to pre-transcode avc/aac.flv files prior issuing the streaming command. Note however that many players have problems with these avc/aac.flv files. While VLC is OK, MPC-HC has problems jumping back and forth and WMP terminates! You may there...

Re: Transcoding to MPEG-2 MP2V

I have updated the above posts to reflect the addition of support for .flv files containing avc video and aac audio streams. This format is now in common use by sites such as YouTube, Hulu and PBS for streaming video to Flash Player, which tools such as Real Player and StreamTransport can download. ...

Here is a further test that demonstrates that it is a video transcoding problem. This log is for a transcode and stream from avc/aac.flv to mpeg2/aac.mpg ie: the audio is just copied. In this case the audio does stream but there is no video. main debug: processing request item Austin City Limits - W...

I get the same log and inability to play with vlc rtp://@232.0.1.29:8200 on my W7-64bit system so it looks like there is no stream being sent. What system are you getting the stream on?

Here's how to use VLC to stream HD files to a Wii

The WII can be used to play video files on a TV using the SoftMod Homebrew WIIMC application either from a locally attached HDD, or via SMP connection to a PC over the LAN, however the power of the WII limits those files to Standard definition (up to 720 wide) videos. High Def videos (1280 & 192...
