Re: Can VLC on Android play media files stored on Windows network-share?

On Feb 20 this year, I asked:
> Can VLC on Android play media files stored on Windows network-share?

The answer was:
> Yes, very soon. It's in the development builds

It is now 6 months later. Where do we stand on this subject?

VLC 1.1.3 -> how can I browse the local LAN?

I've just downloaded VLC 1.1.3.

Does it have the ability to browse the local lan or discover shared folders on the local lan? I believe a previous version of VLC for Android had this ability (?)

Can VLC on Android play media files stored on Windows network-share?

I have a win-98 machine on my local lan that is sharing a directory containing various media files (mkv, avi, mp3, flac, etc). The share method is netbios over tcp/ip. A win-7 PC on the lan has no problems seeing this share and copying files from it. ES File exporer on the Android tablet (running an...

Can't play 24-bit/192khz flac audio files

I know you guys have your hands full looking into various audio problems with VLC, but I wonder if you could have a look at these logs and give me some hints as to why I can't play any 24-bit/192 khz flac files. This is from VLC 2.1.0: main debug: processing request item: (some file), node: Playlist...

Wow, thanks for all the help from you VLC people.

Maybe you could have told me to turn off the "Use float32 output" option under Audio - Output Modules - DirectX and Waveout?

VLC 2.1.0 on Win-98 -> audio is crazy!

I "updated" VLC from 2.0.6 and it plays video just fine, but all audio (either within video or audio-only mp3 and flac) sound horrible. I mean bizarre. Some kind of weird frequency-shift thing going on. Any hints as to anything I can do - like move or transplant codec or other files around...

VLC remote interface shows me all files on server system

I am running VLC 2.0.5 on a win-98 system (with the help of KernelEx) and it seems to function just fine (I've been running VLC under win-98 for years as my primary media player). I have enabled the HTTP remote interface, and I'm running an android app (Remote for VLC) on a Polaroid 7" tablet. ...

Re: "Use GPU accelerated decoding" option is greyed out

I've turned on and off the hardware acceleration (as listed under FFmpeg / Hardware decoding check-box). I've done this while playing the same video and watching my kernel processor usage (win-98 system monitor utility). Putting a check in that box does indeed result in a 20% reduction in CPU usage.

Re: Video Stuttering with VLC 2.0

And GPU accelerated decoding won't work with those GPUs, You need newer one. This chart: http://www.nvidia.com/docs/CP/11036/PureVideo_Product_Comparison.pdf Indicates that the GeForce 6200 (PCIe and AGP) has H.264 decode acceleration for both Hi-def and standard-def content. So tell me why doesn't...

Re: Video Stuttering with VLC 2.0

Minimal requirement for VLC 2.0.x is now Windows XP SP2 so don't expect any support for Windows 98 anymore.
Yea well maybe you shouldn't go pissing all over win-98 when a lot of people with their oh-so-precious Win-XP/Vista/7 are also seeing crappy performance with VLC-2.

Re: Video Stuttering with VLC 2.0

My system is P-4 2.5 ghz win-98 with a somewhat pathetic MX440 AGP video card (64 mb). I updated VLC to 2.0 at some point and then downloaded a hi-def video (1280 x 720 x 29 fps h.264) which played really poorly (stuttering and pixilation). I swapped the card to Evga Nforce 6200 (256 mb) and didn't ...

"Use GPU accelerated decoding" option is greyed out

I swapped an MX440 (64 mb) video card for an Evga GeForce 6200 (256 mb) video card because VLC can't really play large h.264 video files smoothly on my system. I updated VLC to the latest version (2.0.1 I think) but I was still seeing this issue with version 2.0.0. This chart: http://www.nvidia.com/...

Re: A solution for Windows 9x/ME users

The NT-line of Windows OS's have a terrible history of being comprimized remotely via web-based exploits. Win-9x/me have never been vulnerable to network worms (for example) and many other exploits (heap buffer overflows, java shell, flash, etc) don't function correctly on win-9x/me. I don't particu...

Then why can VLC play other content from the drive, such as files burned onto a dvd?

cdrom_tochdr is a unix / linux object or identifier. Does it also exist under Windoze OS?
