Sorry, I should have mentioned that I'm running WinXP SP3.

All of a sudden I am experiencing very slow load times when opening DVDs. If I select Media->Open Disc, the VLC interface will go blank and freeze for about 30 seconds. All of the controls and menus then re-appear. At this point if I click the play button, there will be another pause of around 20-30...
