check out the 0.8.5-test3 for example, or try the nighlies.

i dont think theres a way for realmedia files on vlc. better try mplayer or the realplayer for this.

well to be honest, ive tested vlc 8.5-test3 with various videos however theres no use. no matter if xvid, divx3 or h264 vlc showed nothing then a black picture instead of the video, sound played fine and after some seconds or changing time code or selecting a menu point vlc quits unexpectently. yes ...

i think ive red already some times about requests for an wrapper for quicktime components, however for what i know nobodys working on this, so no way for using the wmv3 codec.

i couldnt believe that this improvment is only due to gcc4, its difference like day and night.

however if this just the gcc4 effect i wonder what would happen if ffmpeg would be really optimized for ppc.

Just tried the nightly mentioned above. Its very fast in starting replay the video and feels in general faster. Even H264 playback is very very improved. It was unusable in the 0.8.4 release with powerbook 1ghz, 768mb ram, running 10.4.3 and now its nearly as playable as with the quicktime player. T...

ive just retried with test2. after a fresh restart the h264 plays quite fine (only choppy at complexe scenes) however it never played longer than 3 minutes, then vlc crashed. i could even change the timeposition and after some seconds the video syncs with the sound however, no way to get more the 3 ...

well, the n800 has a 1,7ghz pentium m, and my powerbook has a 1ghz g4. i think the n800 is a lot faster. however the file plays fine with the quicktime player on my powerbook and as you can see from my first post the problem is more that h264 crashes vlc (besides of a bit choppy playback)

ive just tried the same h264 file with the compaq n800 notebook of my girlfried. it played without a hassle @ only 30 % cpu.

ive used version from the 7th, test2a. is there also a mac osx built of test2a?
