recreate what youtube have done offline using VLC

Tech based videos/tutorials often reference a URL to visit. These URLs can be long and sometimes the text isn't so visible however this is changing with HD content. My question/comment/suggestion is could VLC read URLs stored in a videos MetaData? Specifically MP4 but any standard that has MetaData...
