Virus detected in 1.1 installer

I submitted the latest 1.1 installer to VirusTotal and got two detections. Antiy-AVL 2.0.3.7 2010.07.15 Trojan/Win32.TDSS.gen TheHacker 6.5.2.1.320 2010.07.19 Trojan/TDSS.binb Appears to be the same malware detected by both scanners. While I'm sure this is probably a false detection, it should be in...

How to change playback speed WITH audio

I have a bunch of videos that have an incorrect playback speed. I went to use VLC to play them at a reduced speed setting, and found out that VLC has fancy-dancy audio stretching that keeps the audio at the same pitch regardless of playback speed. Is there a way for VLC to play back at a different s...

Re: 0.9.2: Full-screen video controls pop up every 3 seconds

Ya, uninstalling and reinstalling did the trick. Don't know what was different between that and telling VLC to reset its preferences to defaults, but it works now.

Thanks. :)

My mouse driver developed a bug between 0.9.2 and 0.9.4? Unlikely.

Re: 0.9.2: Full-screen video controls pop up every 3 seconds

That's correct. No matter what I do, I cannot get the pop-up controls to appear in 0.9.4. Not since I upgraded from 0.9.2. I've turned off and on the setting for it in the preferences, and also set the preferences to defaults. Nothing seems to work.

In 0.9.4 I can't get the full-screen controls to pop up at all. So I guess this bug was fixed.

MMSH protocol handler

I have the need to be able to launch VLC to handle MMSH: URLs. As it stands, VLC doesn't install a protocol handler for this. Has anyone got this to work? I see links to many people asking, and one old firefox-specific method for fixing that doesn't work any more, but nothing Windows specific that a...

Traffic pylon/road cone or director's megaphone???

I have been curious for a while about VLC's logo. Specifically, I am wondering what it is supposed to be. The fact that the mouth on it, and the fact that VLC is generally associated with movie playing makes me believe that the intention was for it to be an old-fashioned movie director's megaphone. ...

This causes VLC to alter the frame rate of the source. This might work around the bug, but it also causes poorer quality output. It means a loss of about one in every six frames and inter-frame timing for the rest of the frames is then off by 16% of what the original was. This causes a noticable stu...

I have just tested 0.8.5-test4, and this bug still exists.

No offense, but I'm feeling like a broken record being the only one posting in this thread. Is there a bug tracking system for VLC? Is there any way I can tell that someone official has even taken notice of the report?

My guess is that what VLC calls transcoding is required for playback to anything but the computer monitor Not normally, no. Normal playback and streaming are totally separate in VLC. If you are playing a video, even if you are playing it to a TV output, no reencoding of the video is required. Here ...

This doesn't affect playback - only streaming/transcoding. VLC will play NTSC frame rates at no problem. It's only when you try and encode with the mp1v/mp2v codecs that the problem shows. The only time playback woult be affected is if you are trying to view the video at the same time you are transc...

Directshow/VFW/ACM input plugins

I would like to suggest directshow and/or vfw input plugins for video and an acm input plugin for audio under Windows platforms. They could be placed lowest on VLC's priority so that they are only used if none of VLC's other internal codec plugins can decode the incoming video or audio streams.

First of all, have you tried the skinned interface rather than the simple wxWidgets one? Second of all, when you are watching a video, do you look at the video player's interface, or are you watching the video? The best thing about VLC is its ability to take a video stream from almost any source and...

It will be a lot easier to uninstall and reinstall without the link.

For each and every video extension, delete the keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\(extension)\shell\PlayWithVLC
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\(extension)\shell\AddToPlaylistVLC

Make sure you don't miss any extensions. :)

@Reven: can you tell us a bit more about this bug? I've never heard about this before. In all versions I've tested (0.8.2, 0.8.4test1a), no video frames will be output during a stream/transcode if the input video source has a frame rate greater than 25fps when either the mp1v or mp2v codecs are use...

VLC does not make use of VFW or ACM system codecs in Windows. VLC makes use only of whatever codecs are built-in to it. Thus, if a particular file won't play in VLC, or is missing audio or video, there is nothing you can do. You cannot install a codec to fix the issue. This has good and bad points. ...

  3. Expand "Advanced" (directly under Stream output)
  4. Select "Other" - on that pane will be "Allow only one running instance"

There isn't any way that I know of to directly do what you are asking. VLC cannot use any installed system codecs - it is multi-platform and doesn't support using any particular OS's installed codecs. There should be no issue with including an XViD library with VLC, though. That has my vote - I pers...
