In the desktop version, in the full preferences there's a Replay Gain option. That's not present in the Windows Phone version?

Your disk may be corrupt. Run Disk Utility, select your harddisk, select 'Repair Disk', then 'Repair permissions'.

Re: Tiny Menu size on UHD display

If you switch to fullscreen, much larger controls appear (on top of the video, unfortunately) when you move the mouse.

Re: I can run VLC from the disk image but can't put in applications folder

The "phantom" icon indicates that the version of VLC in your Applications folder is not compatible with your OS. Delete this old version of VLC. Then you should be able to drag the new version into the Applications folder.

Re: downloads with malware

You can download an older version from the archive, see if that works better. That would help narrow down the possible causes.

Re: Frame-by-frame forward/reverse

Frame-by-frame forward is already there as a shortcut key ("Next Frame" in the hotkeys preferences). Reverse is difficult to implement because of the way video is compressed. The file contains one full video frame, then a series of data blocks that only contain the differences between one ...

Re: Skewbar for the toolbar.

There are keyboard shortcuts to do this (Audio delay up/down). IMO this works better than a slider which requires precision mousing to get the delay set correctly.

CNET is a pile of --please stay polite--. Anything downloaded from there is stuffed with malware. So nothing specific to VLC.

Which version of VLC do you have?

Re: Let the computer sleep when nothing is playing

There is a workaround these days: when you open a file that has been played before, VLC asks if you want to resume playback at the place where you stopped last time. So it's no longer necessary to leave a file open and paused.

Re: playing cds

You should be able to play audio CDs with VLC. If the disk is not visible when you select File->Open Disc, something else is wrong. When you browse to the D: drive with Windows Explorer, you see any files? If not, the disk may be corrupt or your CD/DVD player may be defective.

Re: How to disable hot keys?

When I'm in the list of hotkeys I can double-click 'Stop', then click Unset. After a restart, I can press s during a video and it won't stop. So it works for me. This is in VLC 2.2.1 for Windows.

Re: How to disable hot keys?

You can change the hotkeys settings via Tools->Preferences->Hotkeys settings. But this has to be done one hotkey at a time, and it's permanent.
As far as I know, there's no way to disable all hotkeys temporarily.

Re: Version 2.2.1 Terry Pratchett (Weatherwax) (Intel 64bit)

I just upgraded my system (also Yosemite 10.10.3) to VLC 2.2.1 and tested a bunch of random .mp4 and .mkv videos, all of them played normally. What happens when you open these files that won't play? To make sure this issue is specific to 2.2.1, you could try going back to an older version: http://do...

Re: Display options

VLC has a couple of standard aspect ratios built in, this is still available in recent versions. You can cycle through them (shortcut key a, if I remember correctly), this is an easy way to check which aspect ratio is the right one. This works well enough for me, to correct the occasional video that...

Re: vlc - play --> pause ----> seek --> cant play anymore

The link you supplied won't work, it seems to refer to a local file on your computer.
When you seek in a movie file it can take a while for the player to 'catch up': it has to find a key frame and reconstruct the video stream from there.

Handling corrupt audio: how can I prevent loud noises?

I've got a video file that was recorded from a digital broadcast. There are a few interruptions in the broadcast. For the video part, this results in dropped frames, which is mostly harmless. Audio interruptions, however, result in really loud noise (glitches) as VLC tries to process garbage data. I...

I just tried this in VLC 0.8.5 Mac on OSX 10.6.3, and this version shows the correct behavior. Files are added in alphabetical order, regardless of how you drag them (incl. when you start dragging from the last item). Same in VLC 1.0.5 Mac on OSX 10.6.3.

Re: Audio Gain For Macintosh VLC

This article talks about the differences between parametric and graphic EQs: <http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=53> In short: a parametric EQ offers more control, but it takes some practice to set it correctly. In Hear, you can ignore all settings, and just use the Equalizer tab. re: hea...
