Can anyone tell me how the record button works on the VLC windows interface? I've found no documentation on it anywhere. I'm trying to just make smaller snipets of a longer video. Is this how it works? Where to the files get stored and in what format? Thanks.

How does the record button work? Where are the files stored and in what format? How do I change the settings available for format, file location, etc. if available? I have been searching the documentation for 30 minutes and I can find absolutely no documentation on the "advanced controls" ...
