Huawei: Your device is not compatible with this (VLC) version

After resetting my phone (a Huawei P10, running Android 8.0.0), I am no longer allowed to install VLC from Google Play – it says as in the subject. I'm sure it worked previously under same OS version, except that I didn't used it in the past month or so, during which one or two official phone update...

Re: Building font cache

I still fail to understand why this font cache is required when no text is involved at all and why is so difficult to make a config switch to disable forever the font caching by those (like me) who know they will not use/need any text with VLC.

Re: Building font cache

What is the purpose of the font cache anyway? Is it for subtitles? Yes, it is for subtitles and other text rendering options. I wish it were only for that, but that dialog shows up even for my own .avi files, transferred from my DV camera, where no text/translation/whatever text exists. It is extre...

Re: vlc 1.1.0 subtitles auto mode regression

vlc_pgettext() was bugged in 1.1.0 but that's not really specific to subs. I can see that function used in 7 different places at least, one of which is subs. The PO file is fine.
Can you enumerate a few so I can check the functionality ?

Re: vlc 1.1.0 subtitles auto mode regression

The real question is: what has changed between 1.0.5 and 1.1.0 and when was the first regression? VLC 1.0.5 does not have this portion of gettext: #. xgettext: #. The Windows ANSI code page most commonly used for this language. #. VLC uses this as a guess of the subtitle files character set #. (if ...

Re: vlc 1.1.0 subtitles auto mode regression

If you configure VLC 1.1.1 to use the same language as your system, then you will get a code page that matches. Have you read my message above ? Subtitles encoding in VLC 1.1.0 does not work properly in all auto mode. No matter what we do there will always be a problem if you configure VLC in one l...

Re: vlc 1.1.0 subtitles auto mode regression

So you would check for UTF-8 and then fallback to, err, UTF-8 which is the default character encoding on most operating systems. All Windows newer than NT 4.0 have an 8 bit setting that matches the choosed locale (the so-called Language for non-Unicode programs). A program that knows it uses 8 bit ...

Re: vlc 1.1.0 subtitles auto mode regression

The "code" just tries to decode the subtitle as UTF-8 (unless you've disabled UTF-8 autodetection) then falls back to a locale-defined character encoding. If you use VLC in English, then the default is CP1252. Microsoft uses that as character encoding for English and other western Europea...

Re: vlc 1.1.0 subtitles auto mode regression

I can if someone provides me sample subtitle file =) A sample may not be enough, in that a particular sample should match a particular codepage setting at system level. For example, take this one . It is 8 bit, CP-1250. With all auto, row #2 in VLC 1.0.5 displays "Traducerea şi adaptarea *** e...

Re: vlc 1.1.0 subtitles auto mode regression

Happens the same here (i.e. autodetect is broken). System is set to Romanian, subtitles should display in CP-1250 Central European, but display wrong in CP-1252 (Western). Windows Vista 64bit.

With 1.0.5 works ok, even with a not-installed 1.0.5 version (just unzipped).

Re: "Building Font Cache" stuck at 20%

Is your video file a mkv with .ssa subtitle? I have just encountered a somewhat similar behaviour (except that in my case the "rebuilding" ended finally after a looong waiting) when I wanted to play a mmsh stream. Essetntially I sent a stream from my home computer (DirectShow, USB camera)...

with version 1.1.0 I cannot play a file from network (Win32)

With version 1.1.0 I cannot open/play any file that is located on a local network. I have to use the 1.0.x version for this (or 0.8.6i, which I still use sometimes). Neither by drag and drop (preferred) or by File -> Open -> etc.. (and at the time of this post the first time dialog is missing from t...

Re: how/where can I switch the view angle ?

I don't know what "dvdnav based" player means. I play the different angles of my Phil Collins DVD since years with Cyberlink Power DVD and also with my home physical (hardware) DVD player.

As for the crash when opening the DVD with no menus, it plays fine with VLC 0.8.6.

Re: how/where can I switch the view angle ?

An "Angle" position is there under Chapter menu, but it seems a nonsense to me (what has this to do with a "chapter" ?) and further I don't know where to select the desired angle (stream, in fact). I have at least two DVDs, one with main + 2 separate camera view (Phil Collins – S...

Re: Why dont we use web-based translation tool?

If such is not present in the internet, just give me .po specifications and requirements, I can start to create opensource php based vlc oriented (own) translation tool. There are some such things on Internet, for example the Narro project (an open source project, based on Drupal as far as I know)....

I have a similar problem on one machine with XP (an ECS G733 notebook, with Realtek I guess), where playing a DVD with VLC gets no sound at all. Ok, waiting for a new build to test :) ('cause I cannot build it for myslef, unfortunately)

Do you know the status of the inclusion of the small Qt translations ? I mean these ones with the addition of this one. Or should I ring a bell to Xtophe ?
