Frustrating indeed, the above answer is of little help if you are on a G5 mac, I have handbrake 094 and vlc and have upgraded and downgraded all the version I have and the 32 bit version of 1.0.3 or .9 of vlc all lead to the 32 /64 bit conumndrum. I have a copy of the old 'lite' version of handbrake...
