Faint Bleep Sound When Accessing VLC Menus?

Hi, I notice that when accessing VLC's main menus (Media, Playback, Audio etc.), there is a very faint bleep sound. Just wondered - is this normal and by design? Are there any options that control this? I don't get this sound when accessing menus in other applications. I'm using XP Home SP 3 and VLC...

Re: Firefox Web Plugin on YouTube etc?

Just open the URLs through the menu Media -> Open Network
Thanks for the tip. I found I could play YouTube videos in this way by specifying the URL of a page to a YouTube video. However, this method did not work for Dailymotion and Vimeo (nothing played).

Firefox Web Plugin on YouTube etc?

Hi,

I understand that VLC Media Player has a Firefox Web Plugin. I'm currently using Windows XP.

Is it possible to have VLC stream videos directly on sites such as YouTube, Dailymotion, Vimeo etc., instead of using the Flash Player? (Without downloading videos and playing locally in VLC.)

Thanks.

Re: Goom Visualisation Not Working

Thanks for your reply.

So is the Goom visualisation problem a known issue with VLC 2.0.6? Any idea when version 2.1.0 is likely to be officially released to the public?

Goom Visualisation Not Working

Hi, When I try the Goom visualisation, I find that there is a lot of lagging (it sometimes takes several seconds or more to update the visualisation at all on the screen). Other visualisations (and videos) play fine. What puzzles me is that I used the Goom visualisation a couple of years ago with an...

Sound Distortion When Playing Videos

Hi,

When I play videos in VLC 2.0.3 and the volume is set to 200%, the sound becomes distorted. However, if I play the same videos in an older version - VLC 1.1.11, I don't get distortion - even though the volume is still set at 200%.

Any ideas why this is?

Thanks.

Re: Playback of .FLV Videos Stops Prematurely

You should update.
I will update VLC. However, after further investigation I believe the problem may be caused by the .FLV files themselves (e.g. encoding issue), rather than the player.

Playback of .FLV Videos Stops Prematurely

I notice that when playing .FLV videos sometimes in VLC, the videos stops playing prematurely for no apparent reason, as if I'd just hit the Stop button. No error is displayed. If I try the same file in a different media player (e.g. GOM), it plays fine. I just wondered if there are any known VLC bu...

No, there is not.
Okay, thanks for confirming. May I suggest this feature for a future VLC version?

How to Go Back a Frame?

Hi,

I understand that I can press "E" to advance to the next frame in a video. However, is there a keyboard shortcut to go back a frame as well, which would be useful?

Thanks.

Broken Link on Releases Page

Hi,

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/

On the above page, the link to VLC 1.1.11 (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/1.1.11.html) appears to be broken.

Can this be fixed?

Thanks.

Using Keys 0 to 9 to Navigate a Video?

I notice when playing videos on YouTube, keys 1 to 9 can be pressed to quickly navigate throughout the video (and 0 resets back to the beginning again).

Could this (or similar) functionality be added to VLC when playing videos?

Re: Where is the VLC Log File?

Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2)
Verbosity was set to 0, which probably explains why the message was not logged as such. However, when I tried to open a non-existent file with verbosity 0, VLC did say look at the log file, which is a bit misleading if it isn't there. :?

Where is the VLC Log File?

I tried to open a now non-existent file from the Recent Items list. VLC said the file could not be opened and to look at the log file for more details. Could you please advise where the log file is stored? I've tried looking in several places but cannot find it. I am using VLC Media Player 1.1.10 on...

Re: Keyboard Short-cut for Goom Visualisation?

There isn't a Goom specific hotkey. And AFAIK there isn't even a hotkey for starting audio visualizations. Thanks for your reply. It would be great if keyboard short-cuts could be added for Visualisations (including Goom). Would it be possible to move this thread to the "Feature Requests"...

Keyboard Short-cut for Goom Visualisation?

The Goom Visualisation is great! However, is there a keyboard short-cut to switch it on and off, instead of having to go through the menu options each time with the mouse?

Also, are there keyboard short-cuts for the other visualisations?

Re: Playback Truncation of .WAV/.MP3 Files?

I've just installed the latest release (1.1.7), and the problem is still persisting. i.e. The sound file playback is truncated in VLC, but not Windows Media Player.

Hopefully, this will be fixed when I get 1.2.0. Any ideas when it will be ready for official release?

Re: Playback Truncation of .WAV/.MP3 Files?

Thanks for your help. I think I'll wait for the official release of 1.2.0 before testing this. I'm still not sure why the built-in update check says 1.1.4 is the latest version (maybe 1.1.5 is not scheduled for automatic updates yet, or there is some bug?), but I'll download and install the new 1.1....

Re: Playback Truncation of .WAV/.MP3 Files?

Thanks for your replies. I'm a little uncertain about the version numbers. I have version 1.1.4 installed. However, when I use the built-in update check it says that I already have the latest version. The latest version for download on the VLC site is 1.1.5 (vlc-1.1.5-win32.exe). So not sure about 1...

Re: Playback Truncation of .WAV/.MP3 Files?

I am still having this problem with version 1.1.4.

i.e. The MP3 file stops playing a few seconds before the end with VLC. But the very same file plays right until the end in Windows Media Player.

Any update on this bug?

Thanks.

Re: My Recent Documents

VLC maintains its own list of recently played items which you can switch off via tools, preferences. Windows maintains lists of recently used documents, and you can use prgrams like TWEAKUI to switch that off. Derek Thanks. I added NoRecentDocsHistory to the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Softwar...

Thanks for your reply. I tried again today and managed to get the file to convert entirely using VLC!
