I have a computer with a local display and a HDMI connection to a video projector. I want VLC to play the video full screen in the window that is the projector but leave the controls in the main computer window. Is there a setting to make VLC always work this way?

Well, that was the problem. It was no sound from any source on the computer, including Windows Media Player, etc. The fix was to install a PCI sound card and all is working fine including VLC.

Thanks for the suggestion. Neither Waveout nor DirectX produce any sound on the community computer but both produce sound on my test bench computer. Since my original post I have also noticed that both computers have the same audio hardware, Realtek AC'97.

You could try
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --repeat http://10.0.0.54:1234

I know this works for an mms stream. It does tend to send a lot of reconnect traffic though.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. --loop doesn't seem to work, VLC doesn't start and no error screen. --repeat does work though. I agree this could load a network. I suppose one could do some tests to see just how much of a load that is, and perhaps compare it to AppleTalk and Microsoft...
