Sure I do understand the two different parts.
But their license does not differentiate. They don't even mention the GPL on large parts on their project.
The majority of their code is vlc and by their license they even try to prevent you copying it.
Their project heavily relies on vlc's work!

GPL is far more than just providing the source code upon request!!!! It contains the right of anyone to use, modify and redistribute!! This is the most important feature!!!!!
